Venison Sloppy Joes

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 pound ground venison
  • 1 stalk celery, finely chopped
  • ½ medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 8 ounces tomato sauce
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup Dad’s Own BBQ Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Dad’s Own 
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 brioche buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese

DIRECTIONS

  • Over medium high heat, heat olive oil in a skillet and add venison, celery, onion and pepper. Cook until vegetables are soft and meat is browned.
  • To the skillet add tomato sauce, ketchup, Dad’s Own BBQ Sauce, Dad’s Own, vinegar and dry mustard.
  • Cook until mixture thickens, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking to the pan.
  • Season with salt and pepper. Serve on butter toasted brioche buns and top with cheddar cheese.

Serving: Great with homemade potato chips. Venison can be substituted with any ground meat including bison, beef, or elk.
